Christian Buehler Memorial Home Peoria, IL
LZT's work at Buehler Home has spanned 16 years. The comprehensive master plan, created by LZT, Buehler Home staff and administration, included eight distinct phases of construction. The overall purpose of this plan has been to improve this 150,000 sq. ft. home for the elderly with minimal interruption of on-going operations.
The master plan established a process for renovating and modernizing residential areas of the home as vacancies occurred. The existing floor plan consisted of bedrooms with centralized bathroom facilities. The phased renovation provided efficiency and one bedroom apartments, each with living room, bedroom and adjoining bathroom facilities. The master plan also included modernization of the facility's lobby, kitchen, dining areas, administrative offices, laundry, and total replacement of the electrical, heating and air-conditioning systems.
The construction was completed in eight phases. The 112,000 sq. ft. facility has been renovated to provide 146 efficiency and one bedroom apartments.
During the fourth phase, an elevated corridor was completed that linked the third floor of the southwest and west central wings. This innovative idea allowed the addition of 12 apartments in space that was previously inaccessible by elevators and therefore, unoccupiable by elderly residents.
