Salvation Army Headquarters Peoria, IL
The LZT design of the 40,000 sf Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters and Family Services Center features:
Two functional buildings with a residential character
An exterior image that respects the surrounding area;
A distinctive architectural design that sets the standard for Peoria's downtown revitalization.
Two years after its completion, the divisional commander noted that "The Salvation Army is extremely happy with the facility, and feels it sets the pace for the architectural atmosphere of Peoria." The City of Peoria agreed and awarded this project the City of Peoria Orchid Award.
The Family Services Center, the focal point of this facility, provides food and shelter to the disadvantaged of the community. The dietary department designed to serve two shifts of 100 persons each also administers a Meals on Wheels program. An instructional kitchen is used for training people to prepare economical and nutritional meals at home. Emergency housing is available on the Center's second floor for families in crisis.
The Divisional Headquarters building provides space for the officers and the staff of the Heartland Division that serves central and western Illinois and eastern Iowa. In addition to offices, a second floor multipurpose room was designed to host activities such as community meetings and the Division's Advisory Board sessions. |
